The oilseeds sector shows strong growth in Ethiopia, as domestic and world market demands are expected to continue to increase. The sector contributes significantly to the overall growth and development of the country.
It supports the livelihoods of many small-scale farmers and businesses involved in trading, transporting, and oil crushing, as source of employment and income generation. Oilseeds are grown on over 3 million holdings (30% of all holdings) on 800,000 ha (8% of total acreage) and account for 5% of the country’s total production of grain products.
